Alcohol & Drug Use

Alcohol & Drug Use

The subject of alcohol policies is frequently debated in international education. It is important for Samford Abroad students to understand that they are subject to the same “rights and responsibilities” listed in the Samford Student Handbook while participating in university-sponsored events. Samford does not support underage drinking at any time. In general, it is wise to follow these guidelines:

  • Alcoholic consumption is not permitted during university-sponsored activities.
  • Violation of local laws and/or Samford policy may result in dismissal from the program.
  • Be aware that alcohol abuse is not tolerated anywhere in the world and will not be tolerated on Samford Abroad programs.
  • Students traveling independently, should be educated about legally and culturally appropriate behavior regarding alcohol, as well as the consequences of inappropriate behavior. Alcohol consumption and alcohol content can vary from country to country.?In some locations, the consumption of alcohol is not permitted. Be aware of any religious holidays, cultural norms, and laws about alcohol consumption.

Illegal drug use is not supported at any time. Students using or selling illegal substances will be dismissed from the Samford Abroad program, with no credit awarded and no refund issued.?As a reminder, the United States Embassy will not assist if an arrest is?a result of illegal substances.
