I am a student athlete.

We are so happy you’re considering Samford Abroad!

With games and training to consider, talking with your coach may be an important step in your consideration to study abroad. It may be best for you to choose a short-term program that you can participate in during May Term or Summer that doesn’t conflict with your commitments. May Term and Summer programs are typically only 2-3 weeks in length.

A Spring semester abroad may also be a consideration for athletes participating in fall sports in which their NCAA eligibility would have expired.

Affiliate programs may be a consideration if other programs don’t take place at times that work best for your schedule.

Here are the top three considerations for student athletes:
  1. Timing of program. Talk with your coach about the term that best accommodates your training and games schedule.
  2. Academics. - Talk with your Academic Advisor about your interest in study abroad. Selecting a program that abides by eligibility policies related to your program of study is an important consideration.
  3. Financial aid. - Talk with your coach and/or Michelle Durban (mldurban@samford.edu) in Athletics about which funding opportunities you can partake in that will not jeopardize your eligibility status. Additionally, ask them about how your current scholarship may apply along with considerations for additional funding.
